The 50+ generation is a wonderful group of people. They love to get together, and they love to express their passion for God and for others. Compassion seems to come more naturally to those who have experienced more of life. This group of people includes those who are working or have worked at their careers. Many have the pleasure of enjoying grandchildren. As well, many are at a point in life where they have more freedom with their time and energy. Some have more freedom with their finances as well. One of the things that appeals to this generation are ministries in which compassion is a major focus. This special group of people has a deep seated desire to do something significant for God. There is a feeling that life was meant for more than the activities that took their energies in the past. God created us with that deep passion and many are stepping into their area of enthusiasm and experiencing the incomparable riches of God’s grace. Still there are many who simply don’t know how to find the outlet that will bring that level of satisfaction. Providing and affirming these opportunities is a big part of the 50+ ministries at Northgate. Our perspective is that every need in our society is a platform for a ministry for some Christian. God knew each need that would arise, and he created individuals with special inner desires to find joy as they meet them. God’s preparation of individuals who are energized by meeting these needs is one more statement of the love he has for everyone. Another wonderful thing about our God is that he also works with us to empower us to meet those needs. His gracious hand goes before us. He simply invites us to pick up his yoke and work together with him to make our society a better one. While many needs have been addressed by this generation, there are also several that a cross generational group seeks to meet. . This inter-generational or family approach has proven beneficial both ways. Some of the needs that have been addressed by those in the 50+ generation to date are:
The 50+ ministry welcomes other opportunities to serve. Individuals are welcome to discuss their dreams and can expect to receive an encouraging response. New ministries may be birthed from these dreams. Talk to Wayne Everson or Pastor Ken Gaglardi to discuss these or other opportunities for the 50+ generation. |
